Quyen Arana
After receiving a degree in Microbiology at the University of Oklahoma, Quyen Arana spent 10 years as a research assistant specializing in molecular and cellular biology and imaging technologies at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center and the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation (OMRF).
With a penchant for complex problem solving and a passion for getting kids interested in science and technology, Quyen joined the Oklahoma Science Project as Technology Director in 2001, a program providing secondary science teachers with research experiences at the OMRF. In addition to delivering biology and laboratory professional development, Quyen began researching how digital media, web-based technologies, and video-conferencing could be used to enhance science curriculum and rural teacher networking.
In 2005, Quyen relocated with the Oklahoma Science Project to the K20 Center for Educational and Community Renewal at the University of Oklahoma. He now serves as Associate Director for Technology and Industry Partnerships and fosters partnerships with developers and providers of educational technologies, promotes research in emerging educational technologies, and networks the K20 Center with university and industry research and development to enhance the center’s science, technology, engineering, and mathematics programs.
His interests include science, innovation, Globalization, digital convergence, communication technologies, sustainability, social networking, design, woodworking, and running.
Quyen also serves as the Director for the Institute for Biotechnology Partnerships, which serves to enhance biosciences innovation in Oklahoma and bridge the Oklahoma bioscience community with K-12 education. National organization involvement includes the International Society for Technology in Education, International Technology Education Association, National Communication Association, and MENSA.
